I have to admit, being at a Presidential Inauguration is pretty cool. This was my second one to be at, but no question about, the largest crowd I have ever been a part of. People from all over the country coming together in one city, for one purpose. For me, going to Washington D.C. is like going Disney World. I love it and I always have. It is the center of the world in so many ways and the decisions that come from D.C. effect us all in some way. A hope of mine before we went was that the students (and adults) could be able in some small way to grasp the moment. Regardless of whom one voted for or supported, a Presidential Inauguration is a big deal and each is historic for its own reasons. January 20, 2009 was a big deal, not just because of the crowds (people all over getting up at 3am to come into the city), or the first African American President (having the ceremony the day after Martin Luther King Day was perfect) or because of a young First Family with darling children. It was a big deal because it was the next one. Our country, with all of its faults and problems, is still the leader of the free world and yesterday, with President Obama and President Bush hugging each other after the speech was a great example of how leaders lead. So now what? How will this new excitement translate into action? Will people continue the excitement into action? How will this effect education? I believe that now is the time to make the United States a leader once again in education. I believe this site, it's purpose and mission with Science, Art and Math at its core is the perfect place to begin this leadership. I hope others will join and follow.
